0020 Daniel's Dream

We wish we had more time than allotted for today’s lesson.  Nevertheless, we began chapter 7 (the start of the prophetical portions of Daniel) and covered just enough material to introduce this chapter.  As always, grab your Bibles and notebooks and prepare to follow along with us.

We’re continuing our study through Daniel by beginning chapter 6.  However, before we begin this chapter there is one final note we need to discuss regarding the closing of chapter 5 and what this chapter pictures.  After that we will discuss the organizational structure of the Median Persian empire and how that relates to the church.

I love and appreciate listening to people’s testimonies.  Hearing what God has done for them and how He did it is one of the many pleasures of being a part of God’s church.  Sometimes those testimonies are both unusual and fascinating.  None more so than Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony, and that’s what we have in Daniel chapter 4.  So, open your Bibles and let’s study the word of God.

After Nebuchadnezzar receives the dream’s interpretation from Daniel, he responds by promoting all four of the Jewish brethren (Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah) to positions of prominence within the Babylonian empire.  However, in the immediate chapter that follows, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah are condemned to a fiery furnace.  What transpires in just a few verses to require such action?  Open your Bibles and let’s find out.

Today we dive into Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation.  This portion of scripture lays the framework for the prophetical truths we’ll later discuss throughout Daniel, and is the foundation for the whole book.  So, open your Bibles and prepare for a truck load of truths because these verses are loaded.

We begin examining chapter 2, which is the prophetical foundation for the majority of Daniel.  Considering its importance, we will need several episodes to complete our discussions of this chapter, and this is the start to those discussions.  

0004 A Humble Request

We pick back up with chapter 1 of Daniel to conclude this chapter.  The stage is set and now Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah must make a choice to stand for God.  This requires humility and a very simple request on their part.  So, open to Daniel and let’s learn a little more about these four Hebrew brethren.

Dietary laws are the focus for today’s lesson.  Why was the king’s meat rejected by Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah?  Do such restrictions on food apply to the church?  Have restrictions ever applied to any peoples other than the Jews?  All these questions are on the agenda for today’s lesson.
